About Us

Berwick Community Trust was established in 2004 with the mission to secure a prosperous and vibrant Berwick-upon-Tweed.

It is a charity that works exclusively for the benefit of the town through a broad programme of projects and services. It does this through continuous investment in its people and properties. It is involved in initiatives as diverse as supporting Berwick’s public nursery provision to delivering major regeneration schemes.

To enable the Trust to do its work it draws grant funding from foundations, local and central government. The management of social projects and the letting of offices and meeting space at its home in the William Elder Building on Castlegate. To date the Trust has invested over £3 million in Berwick.

 
In November 2025, We were awarded The Kings Award for Voluntary Service. This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE. Our volunteers dramatically outnumber the staff and without them services like the Food Bank and Beach Wheelchairs would not exist. It is an absolute honour to receive such a prestigious award, we are one of 232 local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups this year.
